Choosing a Lawyer

When arranging legal services, you should ask for a quote from two or three lawyers. Some will draw up a will for there clients, for little or no extra charge if there carrying out conveyancing work

In choosing a lawyer find one that specialises in conveyancing, and has experience with private house sales. A lawyer who will keep you up to date and well informed with proceedings

As a private seller your lawyer should provide you with these services:

  • Advise you on the legal aspects of selling your property your legal obligations to the buyer and any real estate agent appointed
  • Provide a Sale and Purchase Agreement form
  • When accepting an offer on your property the lawyer should check the completed Sale and Purchase Agreement before you sign it
  • Undertake all communication with the buyers lawyer
  • Will receive the deposit from the buyer
  • Arrange the title transfer of the property
  • Arrange any mortgage documents required by lending institutions
  • On settlement date, will arrange the transfer of rates payments
  • Final payment will be recieved by the lawyer
  • Then the keys change hands
